Dear  Colleagues and friends,

On October 28, the Shwe Gas Movement plans to facilitate a Global Day of Action, to suspend the Shwe gas Pipeline project in Burma. The project will, if allowed to go ahead, cut a 980 km corridor through Burma and have a devastating impact for the people of Burma and the region.

On October 28, the Shwe Gas Movement and supporting organizations plan to submit a letter to the Chinese President Hu Jintao, as he has the power to suspend the project, and we are humbly requesting as many organizations to endorse the letter. We would be very grateful if you read through the attached letter and reply to this e-mail (solidarity@shwe.org) with your name, organization and country, which will serve as the endorsement. The name of your organization and country will then be included in the final letter submitted to Hu Jintao, through Chinese Embassies. Please send us your endorsements by October 26. If you also send us the web address to your organization’s web site, we will create a link in the final version posted on our web site on October 28.

Currently there are confirmed Global Day of Action planned on October 28 at Chinese embassies in Thailand, India, South Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Europe, Australia, Canada, Philippine,  and we are awaiting confirmations from potential organizers in several other countries. If you have not heard from the organizers in your country yet, or if you would like to organize an action, please contact us for more details.

Thank you very much for your support and solidarity in advance.

Please read www.shwe.org for more information and share this action call among your friends and networks!
