Some updates for the holidays:

Hmong deportation from Thailand “We can no longer work in a camp where the military use arbitrary imprisonment of influential leaders to pressure refugees into a ‘voluntary’ return to Laos,” said Gilles Isard, head of the MSF mission in Thailand.

HR Lawyer charged in Vietnam (and more regulations…) “Marxist hard-liners in the Communist Party’s ruling politburo now are flexing their muscle ahead of Jan. 11′s Party Congress, which will set Vietnam’s economic and political direction for the following five years. As a result, repression is increasing, and, separately, the Ministry of Finance is considering imposing price controls on foreign and private companies to help contain inflation.”

Democracy activist sentenced in China “The conviction and extremely harsh sentencing of Liu Xiabo mark a further severe restriction on the scope of freedom of expression in China,” said UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay on Friday.
